FORM BY FIRE One-Day Raku Workshop
Thursday Sept 19th, 10-4, $150 per person, includes all materials. 6 Participants max.
Come play with fire! Spend a fun day creating a uniquely decorated piece of pottery using the Raku firing method. Students will decorate a simple ceramic form such as a bowl or vase (supplied) and then use an outdoor gas kiln to fire it up to about 1700 degrees. The kiln is then opened and each piece is plunged into a container of sawdust and newspaper. It’s dramatic, adrenaline-friendly and produces one-of-a-kind colors and effects. Students will learn how to: Choose and apply raku glazes Decorate with patterns and stencils Prepare their vessel for the raku kiln Prepare combustibles for the “reduction” process after firing Clean and polish their final piece
