Woodwork

Inventive

Artist Statement

My interest in woodturning was initiated after learning about the Woodturning curriculum at Santa Fe Community College. Like most new turners, I focused on natural wood forms, typically in a bowl form. I eventually became more interested in making objects comprised of numerous wood pieces or segments. The process of making segmented work is time consuming but I enjoy being able to develop patterns within the segment pieces. I have used segments to make bowl, vase forms as well as plates. My most recent work has been focused on dying wood and adding painted accent elements which are residual pieces from tulip poplar tree blossoms.
