Painting, for me, is something of a mystical endeavor. As a painter, I approach my canvases each morning without an agenda. Any plans I may have had before beginning are usually quickly overruled by whatever the paint has in mind. On a good day, i step aside and allow each painting to evolve as it will. I offer up my skills and talents to the universe each day, and try to gracefully accept whatever the universe gives me in return. OPEN365.

I really enjoy making sculptures, and the physical process of working in three dimensions. For more than 25 years, I lived and worked in Idaho and Utah, where I was represented by numerous galleries, including the Kent Gallery in Santa Fe. Now my wife and I live in Santa Fe, and share our space with various creatures who have antlers, wooden hooves, and fluted manes. OPEN365.

The nuances of nature and the natural landscape and their inherent beauty are what inspire me to paint with oils on canvas. With my oils and brush in hand, I delight in the edges, textures, shapes and colors that hold me captive in a moment's time, in a specific place, mood and scene within my surrounding locale and its natural elements. Whimsical, iconic animals using drawing and painting. The current series is called Animal Spirits. The work has an animal head with a human body. The images are influenced by Egyptian iconography and native dance regalia. This series is spiritual to me with interrelations with the earth and animals.

Fundamentally, I am a formalist. I seek to explore seeing by playing with surface and perspective in two dimensions. Texture, shape, color, line, composition have a life of their own. However, I believe mystery and magic are still foremost in creating a good piece. OPEN365.
