I love the luscious colors and the depth, complexity and mystery that can be achieved with pastels when the colors are layered. I also love the clean, fresh transparency and the ghostly images produced by watercolors. I find that combining the two mediums by using watercolor as an underpainting adds a wonderful element of spontaneity to the process. I begin most of my paintings working en plein air, racing the ever-changing light as I strive to capture the essence of place and time.

I love the way beads take one on a historical journey. For centuries man has created beautiful objects with the treasures that were found and traded. I have had the good fortune to have been able to collect many beautiful beads, talismans, and charms throughout the years. OPEN365.

Hand building with clay is one joyful experiment after another. With no need to replicate yesterday’s project and no constraints on my creativity—forms, expressions, and textures evolve around one another and are transformed as each develops a life of its own. Each unique object is a product of whimsy looking for a home where the fanciful is valued.

My recent series of cave paintings are layered with gesso, hard paste, gravel, found objects, impasto and oil to form a realistic surface upon which petroglyphs are realistically laid on three dimensional rock.

I am a photo-based mixed media artist who is interested in creating images that are more interpretive than literal. They are not really about rendering a subject but about capturing a feeling or mood. I started out as a painter and I approach photography like painting. I am interested in “creating” the image rather than just “taking” it. I take different elements that I have photographed and combine them to make a digital collage.

Every day is a new opportunity to be inspired by the world around me. My designs are interpretations of what I see and experience. A magnificent sunset, garden flowers, incredible landscapes and vistas of all kinds bring to mind the four elements of Earth, Fire, Sky and Water.

Early in my career, I was a fine art photographer and photographer for national magazines including Time, Newsweek, Sports Illustrated among others. Fast forward over several exciting and productive careers to now, where I’m making art again – this time as a painter of abstract art, working in acrylics.

To me, New Mexico is the most inspiring place to live and work. Many of my jewelry designs are inspired by the colors and textures in the landscapes and plants of the Southwest. I work primarily in silver and copper metal, but some designs are woven silver wire.
