As a sculptor, I seek to rediscover the purity and mystery of art carved and modeled by hand. What is of paramount importance to me, is that I listen to the call of my heart and remain true to the promptings of my soul. In this way, I occasionally have the privilege of touching beauty, easing back the curtain a little on the human mystery, and when I am particularly fortunate, catching a glimpse of what I call the sacred.
or creativity and our capacity to explore the boundaries of imagination and love, from my perspective, constitute the best and highest use of our gifts and time here on this physical plane. My work has been shown in galleries in New York, Los Angeles and here in Santa Fe - Chalk Farm Gallery and Art is Gallery and included in a number of public and private collections. OPEN365.

My father took me to one of his favorite boyhood hiking locations when I was 10.
That one hike started a lifelong exploration and appreciation of and desire to protect the environment of our planet.
As conflict and climate changes threaten life on the planet, my hope is our collective expressions remind each other of the essential beauty and interconnectedness off all who inhabit.

In early 2022, after decades as a writer and journalist across radio, TV and print, I put aside my keyboard and picked up a brush full of paint. This move came as a big surprise after so much of my adult life devoted to wordsmithing and not making art. The visual arts have always been a passion. I interviewed countless artists for articles about their work, exploring their vision, struggles and success, what made them tick. But never did I imagine I might join their ranks . I’m mostly self-taught and am now diving deep into this mysterious new world, building more expertise in my Santa Fe studio and discovering my own voice and imagination in
beautiful Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Michael is fascinated by the interaction of colors and the accretion of visual texture in paintings as the surface is developed. Layered, colored surfaces and shapes interact and reveal pieces of each work’s underpainting and the many stages of change during the working process. Michael’s current paintings intend to represent in paint a contemporary view of the ravages of time and the elements on a surface and the beauty of that decayed image.

Daily, I find a dozen potential paintings in my visual world, which is a great blessing to me. The art of seeing and helping others to see and grasp the beauty of life’s small fleeting moments is the desire for my art work. Whether it is sunlight glowing through a flower petal, golden backlight on a child at play or the soft glow of evening light coming through the trees on a mesa or mountain top.
